Head and Neck Surgery
At Washington Ear, Nose and Throat, we are part of a multidisciplinary team focused on providing expert care in the treatment of Head and Neck Cancer. Included in this team are medical and radiation oncologists affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, colleagues from Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a talented team of speech language pathologists and physical therapists, and a nursing team at The Washington Hospital dedicated to the care of head and neck cancer patients. Through this team approach, we guide each patient along his or her individual journey, from diagnosis and a discussion of treatment options, to eventual treatment and long-term surveillance.
Our services include surgical and nonsurgical treatment of all varieties of head and neck malignancies, including cancer of the oral cavity, oropharynx, nasopharynx, paranasal sinuses, larynx, hypopharynx, salivary glands, and skin.
We offer in-office diagnostic ultrasound as well as ultrasound-guided Fine Needle Aspiration to aid in timely diagnosis.
Our state of the art equipment includes a high resolution Flexible Fiberoptic Nasopharyngoscopy with a 38 inch flat screen monitor, which allows the patient and family to visualize the areas of concern along with the physician.
We have expertise in minimally invasive techniques including transoral laser resection of cancers of the pharynx and larynx, as well as in conservation laryngeal surgery techniques treating laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
Our physicians are not involved in the education of resident physicians in the operating room. Therefore, if surgery is needed, it will be Drs. Goldberg, Stafford, and Magister not a resident trainee, performing your surgery. In fact, they often work together on more complex head and neck cancer cases, providing safe, timely and consistent surgical outcomes.
